Bending the Rules by L.K. Lewis
(Breaking the Rules #2)
Publication date: April 1st 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
“Drake isn’t just someone I love, he’s the one I love the most in this world. He’s my best friend, my breath, my everything. I realize in this moment that the true reason I’m on this journey to find Drake is not just because I miss him and want him back, I’m also missing a huge part of me. Until we’re together again, my life isn’t complete. Without him I’m not whole.”-Morgan

“… I’m so sorry I couldn’t go to you. It was nearly impossible not to but Morgan we wouldn’t be standing here right now if I had. You found me Baby. When you met me on your first day at Baylor what seems like a lifetime ago you found me. Only this time I’m not letting you go.”-Drake

Struggling to get her life back on track after being left suddenly and inexplicably by (secret) boyfriend –not- boyfriend and boss Drake Baylor Jr., Morgan Lane searches the globe to find Drake knowing that the only way to truly live the life she’s worked so hard for is with him by her side.

Banished to Zurich, Switzerland by his father after being caught Breaking the Rules, Drake has nine months to get the European Division of Baylor Industries back on track. Again, he must obey the rules so that he can hopefully return to his life with Morgan and take the helm of Baylor Industries.

Everything is going according to plan as usual for Adrian Thompson who has just gotten Drake banished to Switzerland as part of his plan to get Morgan (his college sweetheart and hopefully future trophy wife) back in his life for good. With a little help from Lana Lane, Morgan’s mother, Adrian is hoping to have Morgan wearing his ring by New Year’s Eve.

After a few months of being wooed by old flame and now boss Adrian, and without so much as a word from Drake, Morgan hesitantly accepts Adrian’s invitation to join him for New Year’s Eve in St.Moritz Switzerland. Foiling Adrian’s plan, a “chance encounter” finds Morgan back in Drake’s arms.

Will Drake and Morgan be able to overcome the distance and time that is now between them along with a few of the hurdles that life has thrown their way? Morgan and Drake are once again faced with figuring out how to start their new future together- this time not Breaking the Rules, only Bending them.

CLIFFHANGER

I’m not a big fan of cliffhangers unless the second book is out already but I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and you couldn’t help but fall in love with Drake and Morgan. They tried so hard to fight their feelings for each other because they both had things to prove to not only themselves but to their parents.

Morgan wanted to prove that she could make it without the help and influence of her father, while Drake needed to prove to his father that his wild days are over.

Drake’s father instills some rules that Drake needs to follow or he will not take over as CEO in Baylor Industries. The main rule is to not have a romantic relationship. From Drake and Morgan’s first meeting they have a little spark. He decides that she will be working on his projects to see if she really is as smart as she says or if her father was the main reason she got the  job. Morgan impresses him greatly and she starts to work on the Thompson account. The CEO of the Company happens to be Adrian Thompson Morgan’s ex-boyfriend.

Morgan and Drake finally can’t resist each other and decide to keep their relationship under wraps because not only will it hurt Drake’s career but also Morgan’s.  This works perfectly until a trip they take and run into someone that could blow their secret open.

I didn’t like Adrian Thompson from the beginning. Most likely because I was cheering for Drake and Morgan to work out, but he just always seemed like he had an ulterior motive to being around Morgan. He didn’t want her to have her own career but wanted a trophy wife.  I loved the secondary characters you meet in the book, Garrett, Drake’s old dealer turned Bowling Alley Owner and Amanda, Morgan’s best friend.

While this book ended in a cliffhanger I was able to pick right up in the story with the second book Bending the Rules.

Bending the Rules picks up right where Breaking the Rules ends. Your heart breaks for Morgan. The man she loves disappears without a goodbye and her mother is scheming to have her get back with Adrian. Morgan quits Baylor Industries and finds herself without a job.

Drake ends up having to head the European section of the company and working hard at making sure he toes the line to stay on his father’s good side after failing to follow his rules in the United States.

This book makes you feel like they are never going to get back together and I was worried that Morgan would make a horrible mistake in taking Adrian back. You could feel Morgan’s sadness and despair when she would ask Garrett if he heard from Drake and he would tell her no. Though Garett was hearing from Drake he couldn’t let her know. Drake had to follow this time so he didn’t lose out completely.

Just when you think that Morgan is going to fall for the wrong man things end up turning out the way you want. I don’t want to give too much away but it was definitely a great way to end the story. You get your HEA and maybe set up a side story for Garrett and Amanda.

Two really good books I would definitely recommend. A nice weekend read.

  1. Great reviews! It sounds like a good series and an emotional roller-coaster, too, which I'm always a sucker for :)
